The Art of Yang Sheng

Philosofy and long living
In literal Chinese, "Yang" (养) means "to nourish," "to cultivate," and "Shen" (生) means "life" or "birth." Together, "Yanshen" refers to "cultivating life." However, if we delve deeper, it's not just about caring for the body, but also about aligning our inner self and achieving harmony between the outer and inner worlds.
There are three main components that support human health:
- Healthy Eating
For centuries, the Chinese have placed great importance on what they eat. Food should be not only clean and natural but also balanced in taste (sour, bitter, sweet, spicy, salty) and properties (cooling or warming effects). - Movement
Chinese practices like Qigong, Tai Chi, and various stretching exercises embody the philosophy of "water wears away stone" — it's better to strengthen the body through gentle but regular practices rather than harsh exertion. - Psychology
In modern terms, this is about stress management and maintaining a positive state of mind. Even if we eat healthily and take walks, constant anxiety will hinder our well-being.
